Ride 2 Recovery 9-11 Challenge

Thanks to all of you who supported my 50 mile fundraising ride on 9-11-11. With your help, I raised $1200 for the rehabilitation of the 9-11 survivors and first responders and the wounded soldiers of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you!!

DON'T BE SAD THIS WINTER!

Do you:

  • Sleep more?
  • Eat Excessively?
  • Feel more anxious/gloomy?
  • Have more mood swings?

You may have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

WHAT IS SAD?

A type of depression that is seasonal and believed to be caused by the lack of light, causing more secretion of melatonin.

High levels of this "sleep hormone" can cause depression and lead to carbohydrate cravings.

WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT SAD?

  • Open the drapes and add more light to your day
  • Consider a light box (simulates sunlight without harmful UV rays)
  • Exercise

Studies show an exercise program is equal to routine doses of Zoloft, a popular antidepressant.

So... get outside for a brisk walk.

Too cold? Join the mall walkers and feel better! Stair climbing and exercise bicycle riding are other options.

Strength training has also been shown to reduce anxiety and depression and may result in overall psychological well being.

Call for specific exercise recommendations. Ask about our affordable three month gym package.

Remember, if regular exercise does not solve your problems with depression or anxiety, you should seek professional help.
